Q: How long have you been a TIR trainer?
A: I became a TIR trainer in 2015.
A: I became a TIR trainer in 2015.
Q: What inspired you to become a TIR trainer?
A: I was fortunate to see my supervisor delivering Basic TIR to one of her clients during my Master’s practicum in hospice. It completely resolved the unwanted effects of grief-related trauma that the client was experiencing at the time and this was miraculous to behold. I decided after witnessing this incredible session that I had to learn as much about this technique as possible. I now feel very fortunate to be in a position to teach others TIR and hopefully to inspire them as I was inspired when I first saw the technique in action!

Q: What do you find rewarding about it?
A: There is no better feeling as a practitioner than when your client is relieved of emotional, cognitive or physical burden. That is the beauty of TIR; you can actually see the client’s spirit lifting in session! I am rewarded when my clients feel better and I have found application of TIR and related modalities to be among the most efficacious ways of relieving my clients’ distress.

Q: Are you willing to travel to deliver training, if so under what conditions?
A: Absolutely! I am willing to travel internationally to deliver training if required. I ask only that my safety be assured and that reasonable compensation for my services be agreed upon ahead of training service delivery.

Q: Do you have a private practice?
A: I work in private practice under the supervision of a registered clinical psychologist. As such, my clients may be eligible for reimbursement through third party insurance providers depending on the planholder’s terms of coverage. I provide counselling to diverse populations dealing with a range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, phobias, post-traumatic stress, substance use problems, work stress, career dissatisfaction and transition, relationship problems, academic problems, grief and other life or behavioral problems. Areas of specialization include grief and trauma counselling.

Q: Besides TIR, what other things are you interested in?
A: Trauma resolution is an area of considerable professional focus and I am particularly interested in looking at this from the perspective of motor vehicle accident recovery, military service recovery, and grief processing. These are areas of research interest that I hope to pursue at the doctoral level of study. Personally, I have many interests outside work which include spending time with my family and friends, reading extensively (I never met a book I didn’t like!) and long-distance running.

Q: Describe your professional background.
A: I graduated with a BA in Psychology (Carleton University, Ottawa) in 1995 and then spent 10 years in human resources management for corporate Canada, primarily in the area of recruitment operations. In 2011, I made the decision to change careers in favour of a lifelong interest in helping others. I went back to school in my 40s and obtained a Master’s in Counselling Psychology (Yorkville University, Fredericton) in 2012. Since graduation, I have worked as the head of bereavement programming for a rural hospice, authored a district bereavement plan for the Champlain Hospice Palliative Care Program, and completed three certifications in TIR/LSR. Currently, I have devoted myself full-time to private practice and I am regularly consulted as an expert in the area of grief, trauma and bereavement.
