I don’t see a training workshop listed in my area. What can I do?
(open)In addition to the possibility of traveling to a training being held at a convenient time for you, you can consider organizing a training in your local area, or asking your employer to host a training. Many AMI Certified Trainers are willing to travel. Check Meet the Trainers.
Will I be able to use TIR right away with clients?
(open)Many graduates of the TIR Workshop put TIR to work immediately in their practices. Others feel more confident to use TIR with clients after either taking a second level training or embarking on an internship. Internships provide supervision and back-up while you are gaining confidence with these new methods and techniques.
Will every client be able to use these techniques?
(open)The vast majority of people will be able to use these techniques successfully. Of course there are limitations, as there are with any subject. People whose mental ability to focus is currently being negatively affected by drugs, severe mental/emotional dysfunction, closed head injuries or immediate threats in their environments may not be able to use these methods effectively. Often lighter techniques done in short sessions can be beneficial in some of these cases.
What kinds of results can I expect for my clients by using these techniques?
(open)Relative to traditional therapy, TIR and related techniques produce rapid results. Since this is client-centered work, it is the client’s estimation of success that counts. Many clients report getting more out of their sessions that they had expected to. Compassion fatigue is rare in practitioners who employ TIR and related techniques. Graduate of these trainings often report feeling revitalized in their work and their careers.
I have many clients who are not ready to look at their traumas. What about them?
(open)The larger subject of Applied Metapsychology contains a wide array of techniques. You will learn three techniques in the first level workshop that can be done with clients who are not yet ready to face traumatic events in their lives. Later workshops teach many, many more techniques excellent for use with clients in various states of resilience.
What is the difference between internship and certification?
(open)Your internship consists of supervision of your work by your trainer, by the use of session recordings and reports. Your trainer can help you to get the most from your training, both in terms of your work with clients and also in gaining skill at case planning using the techniques you have learned. An internship allows you to fulfill all the requirements for certification.
The AMI Certification Committee oversees the certification process. Once you and your trainer are satisfied that all the requirements have been met, you can apply for certification. Here is the TIR Facilitator application. Some newly trained TIR facilitators, who already have various certifications and licenses, do not feel a need for a further certification. They can still benefit significantly from completing an internship, to practice with supervision and strengthen new skills and knowledge.

How does TIR fit within the larger subject of Applied Metapsychology?
(open)Addressing trauma effectively is a vital component of increasing quality of life. Trauma and the awareness of the effects of trauma capture significant attention in the world today, due to their profound impacts. Meanwhile, other life issues such as relationship problems, gender issues, career uncertainly and so on, also affect quality of life. TIR and all its related techniques, give us the means to address all sorts of life stressors and concerns, and to accomplish Life Stress Reduction. At the end of Life Stress Reduction a client is satisfied that all important issued have been well addressed, and life seems brighter and more full of hope.
Once Life Stress Reduction has been achieved, personal growth and the development of one’s potential becomes more interesting and possible. The Ability Enhancement Viewing Curriculum explores all major facets of life in depth, leading to significant shifts in ability and awareness.
