Just as facilitators complete an internships to become certified, trainers have also completed another type of internship to become a certified trainer.
Trainer training is structured as an apprenticeship that will have the student trainer observe a workshop, then co-lead and lead workshops under supervision until they have met all the requirements to apply, including that both applicants and their trainers have confidence in the applicant’s ability to handle all aspects of delivering a successful workshop, from both the technical and administrative sides.
If you are interested in training as a trainer, your first step is to work on certification as a facilitator and to talk with your trainer about your desire to be a trainer as well. Trainers who are certified as senior trainers are qualified to train new trainers. Your trainer will either be able to organize an apprenticeship that will work for both of you, and or will be able to refer you to their own senior trainer, or another who can do so. (See also AMI Policy 3-2 Trainer Certification).
